The President, Captain and Lady Captain are pleased to announce that the nominees for the posts of Vice-Captain and Lady Vice-Captain for 2012 will be Mr Chris Gartside (pictured back row third left) and Mrs Dorothy Harris (who was unable to attend), respectively.

The announcements were made during the Christmas Dance held on Saturday 10th December.

Ella Dunn

90 Years Young

To celebrate the playing record of one of our longest "serving" members the Captain and Lady Captain presented lady member, Mrs Ella Dunn, with a Chas Jacob print. Ella, who turned 90 years of age last July, and is still playing golf, is an inspiration to everyone.

The Chas Jacob print was No. 90 of 250 appropriately chosen for the occasion. Pictured at left, holding the print, is Ella with the Captain and Lady Captain.

Cross Bay Walk for Charity Lady Captain and Vice Captain

Lady Captain, Pat Forrest & Lady Vice Captain, Maura Magee, crossed Morecambe Bay for the  Golf Club on Saturday 28th May in a sponsored walk for the Captains' Charity.

Braving some dangerous conditions and wading through thigh-high water were all in a good cause.

Sponsorship forms are still on display and more sponsors would be very welcome.

Watch out for the quicksand!

Course Report

The latest report by the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) has just been received by the Club. The Greens Chairman regards this as an important document for reviewing progress on the state of the golf course and future requirements. Members will obviously be interested in its conclusions and a copy is now available for download and view. Simply login to the Members Page and click on the link.

Royal Wedding

The Ladies section held a viewing of the Royal Wedding in the clubhouse on Friday 13th April 2011. Pimms and Nibbles, provided by the Captain and his wife, were served before the ceremony. Entry and a raffle raised nearly £300 towards the Captains' charities.

The Lady Captain and the Ladies Committee were thanked by Mrs Maurine Thompson, on behalf of the guests, for organising the event, which had proved a very successful day; enjoyed by everyone who attended, about 50 in total.

Pictured below at the reception are Sheila Kavanagh, Marjorie Pickles and Ena Foggin. More pictures appear on the Ladies Section page.

Safety on the Course

Can we please remind members and visitors about safety on the course with regard to stray golf balls. When playing the first hole it is vital to shout "FORE" if you THINK your ball is straying onto the 18th fairway or right-hand rough. A similar situation arises for players on the 1st and 10th holes from stray balls hit from the 18th tee! Also players walking up the right-hand side of the 17th fairway and rough should be aware that balls may strike them from the 2nd tee without any warning. Be aware of other golfers and STAY SAFE.

Insurance

In light of the preceding article, Morecambe Golf Club strongly advises all members and visitors to check their insurance cover. Most household insurance policies include third party cover and many will include for loss or theft of golfing equipment and clothing. Now is a good time to check your particular cover and, if lacking or insufficient, to source a suitable policy. (See also our Standard Terms & Conditions)
